Program Overview:
The University of Hartford Magnet School is a diverse learning community that develops each child’s full potential. Through the school’s unique partnership with the University, students are given the opportunity for exposure to the University’s programming.
UHMS focuses on identifying and teaching to each child’s individual talents and strengths, based on Dr. Howard Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences. The school is founded on the belief that each type of intelligence has importance in a child’s life and can lead to greater learning. The UHMS facility features rooms designed that support the multiple intelligences focus of the curriculum.
Students receive ongoing instruction in traditional subjects, as well as in the eight different intelligence areas: Linguistic, Logical-mathematical, Spatial, Musical, Bodily-kinesthetic, Interpersonal, Intrapersonal, and Naturalistic. Based on the 2010-11 enrollment data, the school meets the state integration standard.
