Museum Academy (PK Age 3- Grade 5)

Program Overview:

Hands-on, minds-on authentic learning is on display at the CREC Museum Academy. The Academy, which features a constructivist approach to learning, partners with museums throughout the state to customize museum teachings and learning expeditions to match the humanities-based curriculum. The school’s curriculum is based on the 5E Inquiry Model which encourages students to Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, and Evaluate. This inquiry based approach to learning encourages students to work together to research, create, and present their own exhibits to share with the school and the outside community. Based on the 2010-11 enrollment data, the school meets the state integration standard.

• Learning expeditions to museums throughout the state
• A focus on active learning that allows students to explore and uncover each lesson
• Partnerships with area museums and community programs that allow for an enhanced curriculum and professional development opportunities
• Opportunities to explore the past and the ways in which those views impact our understanding of history
• Full day: PK 3, PK 4 and Kindergarten
