Program Overview:

Classical Magnet School provides highly motivated students with the opportunity to engage in a rigorous liberal arts curriculum firmly rooted in the classics. Classical faculty prepares students for success in the most competitive colleges and universities. All students carry a full course load of Latin, English, history, math and science for each of seven years in the school. Faculty utilizes the Paideia method of instruction, which places the responsibility for learning on students and emphasizes student growth through knowledge, intellectual development, and a deeper understanding of ideas and values. Based on the 2010-11 enrollment data, the school meets the state integration standard.

Special Features:

• Students read original texts in classic literature and world philosophy giving them the cultural literacy necessary for success in college
• Develop athletic talents through competition in 20 CIAC-approved interscholastic sports

• Mandatory afternoon enrichment program emphasizes the development of the whole student. Our creative, diverse afternoon program enriches our students’ lives and allows them to tap into and enhance talents and skills benefitting them the rest of their lives
• Academic, civic and social expectations for student learning: Students are expected to demonstrate the school’s core values of dignitas, gravitas, and pietas while also demonstrating the ability to read and think critically, write and communicate clearly and effectively and problem solve
