Capital Preparatory Magnet School- Lower School Program (PK Age 3- Grade 5)

Program Overview:

The addition of the Lower School program to our PreK-12 school provides a full educational experience at Capital Preparatory Magnet School. The lower school’s mission is to identify the gifts and talents of our students. An individualized learning plan is created for each student that focuses on their skills and talents. Each grade has a team of teachers that specializes in either humanities (language arts and social studies) or math and science. In addition, our multi-grade advisory system in which each student is assigned an academic advisor, allows us to create a personal educational experience for each students and his/her family. Our social justice theme is woven into our curriculum through interdisciplinary units that highlight social justice topics and incorporate our five learner expectations: collaborator, information processor/researcher, problem solver, empathetic citizen, and communicator. Also, the partnership with Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Talented Youth’s (CTY) program enables our students to participate in CTY’s online courses in mathematics and language arts. The gifted program is integrated into the classroom through common teaching strategies and the application of knowledge.
